It comes in 3’s, Marvel MMO isn’t coming back from Hell this time.
MTV’s multiplayer blog posted an interview with Shane Kim, head of Microsoft Games Studios, discussing the current state of the Marvel MMO. He finally confirms the rumors that Marvel’s MMO was heading down the toilet by saying that the MMO is in fact dead. When asked for the reason the project was nixed Kim replied that they could not “create another subscription-based MMO.” He then went on to say, “ And if you really look at the data there’s basically one that’s successful and everything else wouldn’t meet our level or definition of commercial success.” Basically he threw out a bunch of random stuff that doesn’t really make sense when you really look at what was said.
This thing all started out bad when Marvel sued NCsoft because of City of Heroes and ended in a settlement that had Cryptic making this MMO. This all started with bad blood and there was only one way it would have ended. There is really no surprise here.
